I was born and raised in South Dakota so I absorbed lots of old-fashioned work ethics. It shows in how I run my business.

I've been drawing ever since I could pick up a crayon or a pencil. You should have seen my grandmother's walls!

In high school, I had my own comic book of sorts that I photocopied for friends from my sophomore year to my senior year. One whole semester of art school! But that didn't stop me from having some of my art selected and used for posters, t-shirts and friends' tattoos throughout the years.

I turned 40 and picked up a tattoo machine myself. I spent three years as an apprentice in a busy shop located in the Castro district of San Francisco, and stayed on after I completed my apprenticeship. After 7-and-a-half years, I decided it was time to step out on my own.

I opened my private studio, Painted Monkey, in the Mission District in San Francisco in July of 2009, and in 2011 we moved to a new location in the Castro. My personal clientele and word of mouth have kept me very busy ever since. I consider myself very blessed to be able to bring artwork alive on other monkeys in this world!
